With traffic coming from route 81 visitors miss the historic downtown area and all the great local businesses and attractions.
With 2 way traffic on Main Street visitors would not get confused trying to get around the area. Plus it would make a direct route toHistoric Pulaski County Courthouse, Pulaski Theater andGatewood Park. So please help by supporting and signing this Petition so we can bring this to the Town Council.
For directions on how to get to the Pulaski Theater on West Main Street: " I 81 to Exit 94- Pulaski. Rt 99 comes into town and turns into 3rd Street. After passing the Court House and Library, turn left at the next light, Jefferson Street. Next light turn left onto West Main Street. Main Street is one way. OR Rt 11 (Washington Street inPulaski) to 3rd street, one block to left on Jefferson, one block to left on Main.Pulaski Theater is at the end of the block on the left."
Tell me this is not confusing....

Seeing this kind of movement is exhausting but it proves that people are just as tired of these confusing detours as I am. We have finally reached a point where the town council can no longer look the other way.

Fix this. One way streets are killing the shops on Main.
THIS. Nobody stops in town because it is impossible to navigate. My friends missed the whole downtown area because they got turned around at the courthouse.
The rationale for one-way traffic on Main Street (getting people out of town in case of a national emergency) has dissolved. If there a nuclear attack, the LAST place I want to be is stuck on I-81. It seems to me, with the rationale gone, it's a matter of battling 52 or 53 years of tradition and fixing some stoplights. We want people to linger -- not leave town via Main Street -- especially in the historic West and East Main districts. Especially with potential new investment coming into the district, it's time. Look at our neighboring communities? How many have one-way traffic through their Downtowns?? Radford, no. Salem, no. Wytheville, no. Marion, no. Blacksburg, no. Chilhowie, no. Abingdon, no. If you want to market Gatewood -- give us a straight shot to it -- right up West Main Street. If you want to get to the Theatre -- west on West Main. If you are Falls Stamping and need to get product to Volvo? First Street to Duncan Bridge, right on East Main, and a left on Bob White. It's time. More importantly, it's part of the revitalization equation for Downtown.

About time. I see lost cars on my street every single day trying to find the theater. It is a nightmare for anyone not from around here.
