The local officials have finally agreed to bring the grocery store to the Grand Union site. I started this because I was worried about the future of our village and I am truly stunned that so many of you stepped up to make this happen. Let us keep a close …
We the undersigned urge the officials in the Town of North East and the Village of Millerton to enter into immediate negotiations with the relevant parties including the property owner of the Millerton ‘Super’ and tenant (C&S Wholesale Distributors) and county and state economic development agencies to move the proposed new supermarket from the location recently approved by the Planning Board to the site currently occupied by the Grand Union.
We believe that a large majority of residents, members of the Planning Boards and local merchants – including the owner of the shopping center favor this site for the following reasons:
THE DEVELOPER PREFERS THIS SITE TO THE APPROVED SITE AND HE IS WILLING TO SPEND CONSIDERABLE FUNDS ON EXTERNAL IMPROVEMENTS TO A 50 YEAR OLD COMPLEX AND GROUNDS;
THE OWNER OF THE SHOPPING COMPLEX IS COMPLETELY SUPPORTIVE OF THIS PROPOSAL;
THE UPGRADING & REHABILITATION OF AN AGING AND DETERIORATING BUILDING AND PARKING LOT WILL GREATLY ENHANCE THE BUSINESS CLIMATE;
THE LOCATION IS PREFERABLE IN THAT IT IS CLOSE TO THE VILLAGE, OTHER STORES & POTENTIAL HOUSING LOTS;
THE SITE HAS ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURE – SEPTIC, WATER;
IF THE MARKET IS CONSTRUCTED AT THE APPROVED SITE, THIS WILL LIKELY FORCE THE CLOSURE OF THE EXISTING MARKET LEAVING AN ABANDONED EYESORE;
FROM A PLANNING PERSPECTIVE, FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IT IS CLEARLY THE MOST ADVANTAGEOUS LOCATION.
I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum building behind this idea. This belongs entirely to those of you who took the time to speak up for our neighborhood.

The area needs a grocery store and the site could use the improvements. Seems like an easy decision to me.

that old building is an eyesore and needs to go. fixing it up and putting a decent store there makes way more sense than building something new on the edge of town.
