Education Access and Accountability at UIUC
TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Everyone has a right to an education. The University of Illinois has increasingly become inaccessible to many people in the State of Illinois. We the undersigned demand:
1. A tuition freeze for incoming students. Last year, the Board of Trustees raised tuition by 9.5%, amounting to $901 per year that incoming students have to pay. As a public school, the University of Illinois has a duty to serve the students.
2. The active recruitment of underrepresented Illinois communities. Project 500 had the goal of recruiting 500 Black and Latino students in each freshmen class. In the 2009-10 school year the University of Illinois failed to meet that goal for the first time in 40 years.
3. President Hogan, give back your pay increase. In the middle of a budget crisis, the newly appointed President of the University of Illinois received a $170,000 pay increase, amounting to a salary of $620,000 per year.
