T&T Safeguarding for Vulnerable People
Abuse has serious physical and psychosocial consequences which adversely affect health. It refers to any act or failure to act that violates the rights of another person that endangers his or her optimum health, survival and development.
Whilst most people are well intentioned, there are a few who are determined to deliberately seek to harm children and vulnerable adults. They come in many disguises and from all strata of society. A national safeguarding culture will discourage these perpetrators from becoming involved in organisations and activities that enable them to engage in abusive behaviour and make it harder for them to harm or abuse children and vulnerable adults.
Protecting children and vulnerable adults from abuse requires a multi-agency national response. Creating a powerful new body of safeguarding legislative and policy framework will set the national operational agenda for fighting this serious and complex crime and any associated organised criminality (child pornography, trafficking and prostitution).
