There has been a lot of negative press being released about the samoa and ourselves within the surfing community. Some people have posted a petition site up trying to get as quoted: "access to all beaches and surfing breaks located on Samoan Islands, regardless of their place of accommodation or local village of residence" This petition also falsely states that they were endorsed by a samoan surf association. The person behind this petition will not come forth and there appears to be NO 'Samoan Surf Association' listed here in Samoa and within the surf community no one is taking responsibility for this. As a Samoan it appears this petition is completely disregarding our Cultural and Village ownership/rights and values. Anyone from Samoa knows you cannot just go to any beach without gaining permission by the village and respecting their rules set out by them. This petition is trying to gain (as it states) 'allow unrestricted access for all people to all surfing. We started this petition stating WE DO NOT support that all beaches/surf in Samoa should be unrestricted and freely accessed to all! Thank you for your support!
