I am a TN sufferer who is lucky to have a dentist who recognised my symptoms and who has supported me all along. I know many are not so lucky and endure needless dental procedures and lack of awareness in the medical community delays referrals to medical experts who can help.

I have heard of at least 3 people with TN - my mom, a neighbor, and the mom of a fellow choir member. I have not been diagnosed, but I would not be surprised if I have a mild version of it as well as I have had dental work that felt like the anasthesia did not work and had 3 root canals on one tooth that is still sensitive to cold and sinus pressure. My mom had an attack this weekend that sent her to the ER twice - not only for pain management but to get an IV for dehydration as the pain was too intense to get even a spoonful of water through her mouth. The torture of this disorder is unimaginable. - especially since you cannot brace for it as it comes on suddenly and unexpectedly. In addition to a cure, I hope they can determine the cause. I would also like to see more education provided to the medical community. The paramedics that picked her up never heard of it. One of the main triggers for my mom is a cold breeze. The paramedics took her outside into the cold air without covering her face. When she was released by the ER and while I was retrieving the car, they left my mom outside in a wheelchair by herself at 4am with only a plastic vomit/urine bag to protect her face from the cold and rain. Medical staff should be taught proper care of TN patients to avoid making the situation worse.

Please don't forget about us. The pain makes me want to slap myself just so I feel another type of pain. I can't think about anything else. I feel alone and that the best part of my life has come to an end. Jesus can take me home anytime he's ready. I'm ready. Tired. So tired.

I was just diagnosed with this horrific condition. Please add this rare and life altering disorder to the health topic list. I am a young 28 year old wife and mother to twin 2 1/2 year olds. I want some kind of hope that I will be around to be with my family, painfree.
