The utility board finally recognized us as skilled laborers today. I started this because I was tired of being undervalued but looking at where we landed makes the long hours spent fighting for this worth it. Stay sharp out there because we finally earned the respect our trade demands.

I'm Michael a utility tree trimmer who's trying to fight for other trimmers right to call us a skilled trade. I got tired of waiting so I decided to make a run for us. I'm not asking for donations or am I even a union leader I'm a trimmer who feels shorted. Our jobs are way dangerous for what we reap. Let's take action now. All I need is a signature. If you ever ever seen us climb in your area and trim next to a live wire u would think we were skilled. Were not reconconized as skilled so utilities abuse our pay. We work with power on. We ride out during national emergencies to restore power side by side with the utility. Away from our families with long hours working in a stressful environment states away sometimes. I see the numbers climbing and it proves that people are finally noticing the life-threatening work we do next to those live wires. We need to keep this momentum moving forward to hit our next goal before the industry realizes we are serious about getting the professional recognition we deserve.

Watching the numbers climb reminds me of the countless hours I have spent dangling next to live lines without the recognition we deserve. Think it is in skilled labor? Come spend a day climbing over 365000 volt lines a cut the branches that over hang them. Really no skill involved even a legislator could do it
Been in the Ibew since 1986. 15 years as a journeyman tree trimmer and the rest as journeyman lineman. Roping,rigging and safe removal of trees is a skill few possess let alone working at extreme heights either in the hooks (climbing) or out of a bucket. The trade deserves the “skilled” designation!!!
A buddy of mine went to installing garage doors so he can pick up all the side work he can because working around power lines is dangerous and we are definitely shorted on pay for risking our life every day. Our cdl drivers are seriously underpaid as well
Damn right we are. The education need to recognise failures, diseases, biology and rigging are intensive. We are in a constant state of learning with this job.
It's a complete joke to consider any legit trimmer or tree service worker from ground guy to lead climber to be unskilled labor. Not only is this work trying on the body but also the mind. If you think it takes no skill to work 70ft+ pulling overhang during a storm or blocking logs down that weigh as much as a smart car safely your ignorant.

My late fiancé was a trimmer and it is absolutely a skilled trade. It’s not easy at all and extremely dangerous and when he trimmed power lines he was paid so little for what he was doing.
