I know that I will never fully understand the struggles of the trans community, as I am not a transgender individual. For that reason, I feel it is incredibly important for the people of the transgender community to have a say in NIU's decisions regarding transgender students. NIU's decisions should take all voices into consideration, especially those who are most affected. I support the trans community.

We need to do the right thing, and be loving to those who are struggling. This means reaching our hands out to help and support, to show that we care. This means being conscious of our words, and speaking from a place of kindness and compassion, even if we don't understand. This means being sure to include those who feel excluded. This means listening to others, and believing them.

All of our students deserve safe and respectful space. NIU must take a stand to protect our Trans students and educate our community about important issues related to our trans colleagues and students. It's on us.

All students, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender orientation deserve equal rights and consideration in decision making processes coming from the administration.
