By signing this petition, you are in support of equal rights for transgender students in district 58 and 99. You believe that transgender students should:
be able to use the bathroom of the gender with which they identify (not their gender at birth)
NOT have to be limited to using a single use "special" bathroom, which further ostracizes them from their peers
The silence from the school board is growing heavy, but I am still spending my nights sending emails and collecting the stories of families caught in this exhausting situation. This is much harder than I anticipated at the start, yet walking away now is not an option when these students are being treated as second-class citizens.

Seeing this grow has been exhausting but watching the momentum build reminds me exactly why we started this fight. It is hard to stay focused when the pushback is constant but your support makes the grind feel worth the effort.

Fully support the safety and rights of trans students. Downers Grove schools should keep up with their peers and continue the improvement of access to bathrooms for all students.

it is absolutely deplorable that it's 2017 and we're still fighting for schoolchildren to be able to relieve themselves in peace, without fear. it is NO ONE's business what genitalia anyone else has. i promise you the other kids care a whole hell of a lot less than the bigoted administration of your average school district.

Everyone needs to use the bathroom. Think of how you would feel if there wasn't a safe place for you to go throughout the day.

The petition realizes the inherent worth and individuality of each student. This approach to student equity provides for essential civil rights rather than systematic equality, i.e. all students receive exactly the same. Well-written!

This should not be controversial. These kids have a hard enough time and do not need to be tortured by adults as well.
