We, the parents and Ardscoil na Mara students living in Tramore, feel that it is imperative that a Bus Service be put in place for Tramore students. The benefits of having students picked up and dropped off at designated locations near their homes/housing estates, would no doubt prove to be invaluable for both stressed out parents and anxious students alike. Here are just some one the many benefits of having a local school bus service in Tramore:

Ø Traffic Gridlocks: A lot pf parents end up being late for work, other school drops, appointments, etc as a result of the time spent sitting in traffic

jams at Ardscoil na Mara.

Ø No other form of transportation: Some parents don’t drive, resulting in children having to walk, cycle etc in the rain and subsequently having to

sit in their wet clothes all day. This causes discomfort and stress to the affected students.

Ø Heavy school bags: This is particularly worrying for those with no transportation, resulting in children fretting over backache, muscle stiffness

and tiredness. This would also contribute to unnecessary lethargy on arrival at school and throughout the day, consequently having a negative

impact on student education.

Ø Convenience: Having a bus service with various local pick-up points would prove immensely convenient for everyone in Tramore. Aside from

helping to ease the traffic congestion in and around the school areas, people have expressed the relief that a bus service would offer knowing that

their children would arrive at school on time, safely and untroubled.

Ø Eco Friendly: Given the immense amount of traffic that accumulates in and around Ardscoil na Mara every morning and afternoon, the air

pollution must be appalling. A bus service would result in the elimination of a vast number of vehicles, thereby helping our environment and in the

long run, the health of our children.

Ø Benefit to Teachers, Staff & Other Schools: Obviously, if the Tramore students were travelling to school by bus, the domino effect would be less

local traffic approaching the school, making it easier for teachers, staff and students outside of Tramore, to gain access to and from Ardscoil na

Mara, which would be a positive outcome for all concerned.

We plan to present this petition to the public transportation companies, with supporting letter and petition signatures, in the hope of finding a resolution to this ongoing problem.
