TRAFFIC SAFETY ON POLE GREEN ROAD

The undersigned residents of Hanover County Henry District request the following concerns to be addressed:

1. The use of Pole Green as a cut through to King William for large heavy vehicles, ex: 18 wheelers, dump trucks, delivery trucks that are not suited for the congestion, curves, asphalt, and speed. The signs that are posted need to be more prominent in size and location for the drivers to see. Better enforcement would also be appreciated.

2. Due to the increased congestion of passenger vehicles and the increased danger to the residents of Pole Green Road we request a reduction in speed to 35mph. The difficulty in entering and exiting the road from driveways has become increasingly dangerous as well as harassing in nature. The reduced speed would offer greater time and space for turning as well as encouraging the alternative 360 route with reduction in congestion possible. Should accidents occur the threat to life and property would also be reduced as greater speed and little space contribute greatly to property damage and fatalities.

3. Due to the use of Pole Green Road by our valuable Agricultural community, signs should be posted at appropriate locations indicating slow moving farm equipment. The reduction in speed would also allow our farmers greater time and space with which to access the fields and farms.

4. With increased efforts of drivers to avoid potholes and poor asphalt conditions it would also decrease unpredictable path of travel incidents. With uncertain road conditions it is difficult to navigate a safe line of sight to avoid collision with many traveling out of designated lanes.

ADDITIONAL CITIZEN SUGGESTIONS:

• Install a roundabout at the intersection of Walnut Grove Road and Pole Green
• Enforcement of the Designated Emergency Route
• Finish Creighton Parkway
• Address the data from the VDOT recently completed
