Greetings Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE)! We – the great and devoted Fans of Leafs National – gather to voice our concerns and strongly suggest the trading of Dion Phaneuf during the off season. Dion Phaneuf has been a non-contributing member of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey club since is acquisition from the Calgary Flames on January 31, 2010. During the last four seasons of having to watch Mr. Phaneuf attempt to play defence for the Maple Leafs, we have noticed his inabilities to lead the club and a dramatic decline in overall performance and statistical output. However, we see enormous potentials in trading Mr. Phaneuf to any other team in the NHL, KHL, AHL, or WHL for high quality practice pucks, water bottles or even used unwashed cupless jock straps. Any of these potential items received in trade would be more mutual beneficial for the Toronto Maple Leafs organization as well as the current and future players of the Maple Leafs or Toronto Marlies. Moreover, from a Fans perspective a trade for such items would bring greater confidence in knowing that these items will not cost us a single loss by being on the ice. Trade potentials • Anything is possible once you free up the $5.5M salary Dion Phaneuf is expected to earn in the 2013-14 season • The Maple Leafs already have a strong young defensive core, so go grab another scoring leader to help the front end. • Buying out Dion Phaneuf’s contract will only cost the club $2.8M in Cap Space for 2013-14 season and $1.8M 2014-15 season. Saving $3.6M overall. Phaneuf’s problems His noticeable problems currently are (but not limited to): • Can’t back up or deliver on his statement: After the Lockout, the statement from the Dion Phaneuf was recorded “Now, our job is to get back on the ice and give them the product that they want to see.” Source: • Lack of commitment, heart, leadership, and skill. This is not a player you build a franchise around. • Statistically by average per season since being acquired by the Leafs: Goals: Down 38% to 10.25, Assists: Down 34% to 23.25, Points: 35% to 33.5, SOG: Down 30% to 176.25 (This is because he can’t hit the net), and +/- a solid -3.75 for the last 4 years. • These problems has caused many nights of heart ache, pain, and disappointment for Leafs Nation. As loyal customers and fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs, we support MLSE in their decisions, but feel compelled to voice our concern and hopefully see this wasted investment of our money re-invested into quality players. In conclusion, we – the undersigned – call the owners, chair and management of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment to give the appropriate attention to the trade of Dion Phaneuf. We as fans deserve the right to pay for quality entertainment and an overall improvement to the Maple Leafs Hockey Club. We as Leafs Nation came back to support the organization after the crap you pulled with the lockout, and didn't as for much, but the ability to watch, cheer and support our Toronto Maple Leafs team. Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment claims to care about their fans, and fan loyalty, then please do something about this! Thank you for your time. Regards, Concerned Fans.
