this has got to be one of the most ridiculous laws in california. Nunchucks are a felony but guns, knifes, swords, tasers etc are not. Its a tool used in martial arts to improve in coordination. It can definitely be a dangerous weapon but so can almost anything else. This law should be revised. It should NOT be illegal to own, use, practice or even carry, but should be illegal to use on someone as a weapon.
Nunchaku was just a farming tool, and it should be legalized everywhere. Why Americans are so afraid that two little wooden sticks connected with a piece of chain or a string, if Americans can own guns? Be Brave, my American folks!
nice
Legalize it!
Legalize it!
Everyone has the right to protect their families and themselves.
I believe every person has the right to defend themselves, so legalizing Nunchaku would be a great benefit.
These should be legal!
is more than a weapon is an art. Legalize it!
Legalize nunchucks!!
Im waiting!!!! Why is this taking forever? Just a few ppl.
Good for personal defense to be honest. Especially good for women to have one and have some training with it This will decrease the amount of victims.
Its a Martial Art...please this state is already stupid with laws...save your selves now.

I vote to make Nunchakus legal
I agree with Jack 100%
Nunchakus require lots of time and effort to learn in order to prevent one from hitting themselves with it. It's a very unwieldy weapon-The possession of said object being a felony is outright ridiculous.
Definitely need to update the laws.
Legal over all United States. Require a permit
a mindless and reactionary law. they should have made rocks and slingshots illegal instead of this, yet swords in your home are perfectly legal.
The law is unfair and should be changed . I have been practicing martial arts since teen ,I'm now 47. Never have I heard of nunchaku being used to hurt someone. All though guns are leagal ?????
I watch the news everyday and nunchuks never been used to harm anybody or kill someone in campus or mass killing with nunchuks I carry nunchuks every day from home to my dojang never have to protect myself with nunchuks probably because the aggressor will have a gun..... nunchuks can easy be replace with bullets...
I trained with them in Texas and they are a beautiful martial arts weapon to practice. I think there are worse weapons than these to ban.
I own a shotgun, but cannot own nunchaku to practice martial arts in my own home? But a sword is fine? Really? Please retract this ridiculous law.
I am an experienced, serious martial artist, yet it is a felony for me to possess (outside my dojo) a pair of nunchaku (a piece of stick connected by a cord) while it is completely legal for others to own guns and knives? This is completely unfair and frankly discriminatory. Just like guns, the weapon does not hurt people, PEOPLE hurt people. And I have not heard of one nunchaku death or harm to innocent bystanders, unlike guns. Change the law.
It is Stupid for state law to continually illegalize ownership of Nanchaku whereas ownership of guns & swords are allowed.
Extremely unfair. I am unable to continue my training in my own home. Attending a dojo is cost prohibitive. This law is reckless and discriminatory.
california is supposed to be the best state in the land of the free but a stick is the same thing as a concealed gun? i guess common sense just doesnt apply? change the law especially for the martial art practitioner who follows the law and has a clean record
This is an obviously dumb law. I can legally possess a firearm, longspear, katana, broadsword, crossbow, compound bow, or any other weapon that causes serious harm. But having two wooden pieces tied together with a rope is too dangerous. I simply want to keep fit and exercise. I studied martial arts as a young adult and wanted to freshen up. Now it seems that is illegal in the state of California. It is a primitive farming tool. I guess we should make rakes and shovels illegal too?
It is not wise at all for state law not allowing ownership of Nanchaku while it is oaky to own guns in California!
Another step closer to having nunchucks
Nunchaku are a legitimate martial arts training tool that take years to master, unlike a gun which every gang member has. The law is utterly racist against an irrational fear of Asians and their "mysterious skills". Any hand weapons, including nunchaku, should be allowed within one's home, car or work for minimal self-protection without having to have a gun.
A misdemeanor to carry a concealed gun but a felony to possess nunchaku? No!
Why jhst why
Long time martial artist, no where to practice my weapon art that is convenient. Like telling a pianist he can only practice in a music studio.
Make nunchaku legal again!. Its a sport!
A felony for a traditional martial arts weapon? ridiculous!
I sign for freedom of the Nunchucks & people!
Ridiculous law that further shows how out of touch and incompetent the law makers are in this state.
A law born of ignorance . Graceful ancient weapon . Not practical in today's world but silly to outlaw . Dangerous ? Mostly to beginners as are many sports . Few will ever achieve real offensive or damaging ability . Please , allow good sense to prevail . Repeal this dangerous law .
As a Martial Arts school employee, this law is ridiculous. We can't sell nunchucks to our students to practice in their own home for fear of them being arrested on a felony charge. It's insane. Nunchucks are impractical and flashy - they're used only for competition at tournaments. It's been years since this law has passed, it's outdated and awful that it's still being enforced.
Let's grow martial arts in California! It helps so many kids, which we know need the help.
I never knew that they were considered a felony. I was recently in possession of them just before trying to get into the military and now I'm in fear for my future that because of a weapon that I made from parts at home depot, I could lose my chance of getting into the military,
The nunchuck is not a threat in today's world buy a valuable tool in martial arts.
Nunchuck should not be a felony offense.
Nunchucks had become a form of art. People start doing great things with nunchucks mostly for shows and entertainment perform. It also very practical to many kind of martial art.
Legalize it
#LEGALIZENUNCHAKU
yes i agree. it is a more safer concealed weapon, why not. if more people were martial arts trained, there would be less trigger fear.
Yes!!!
Nunchaku is a way of expression in the flow arts, has helped many to get out of depression, bad habits, also helps with muscle n brain memory n motor skills, nunchaku helped me to relief stress n to be more active.

Was arrested w homemade Nuchucks along with 2 sword , hanwei and sgb cheense, pluz balisong and microtech out of the front switchblade
Legalize nunchaku, and at least give ordinary law-abiding citizens like myself a way to even the odds against those who would do us harm!
Kungfu/jkd member. Nunchucks are a martialarts tool. Not. Just a weapon. Make them legal. Theyre harmless unless you have over 5 years exp atleast. Then theyre dangerous
Really
not only Nunchaku. but also balisongs and, shuriken need to be legal, at the very least give a good excuse for why they are banned. dont just say you could hurt yourself, you can hurt yourself with literally anything you don't know how to use

This is a stupid law. Very outdated.
I think it's pretty ridiculous that when nunchaku was banned swat started using them.
I took Taekwondo that’s where I receive special weapons training. it’s not a weapon but a prilvilege to own these.. with the right training I think they are a great idea.
Nunchucks are a tool of defense which can also be used as a weapon if needed. t is also a Martial Art tool which should be legalized
cmon many people consider it as marital art i agree with Chrs Pellitteri
Took 7 years of martial arts, i would like to be able to use my knowledge for home defense, or at least show off to friends in my back yard.
Legalize em
I'm in one of those other states, New York, where there is not even an exemption for dojo use!
Nunchucks should be legal, but you should need some kind of permit to carry them like with guns.
Nunchucks can be a great equipment to stretch and strengthen wrists for those, who spend a lot of time in front of computer screen.
The Olympics is calling us. and they put regulations on us .
I feel strongly about this issue. The fact that my neighbor can have a whole pile of guns legally purchased and I can't own a pair of nunchucks for martial arts training seems ridiculous to me. Perhaps having an age requirement/ registration of the person in possession of the nunchucks is a reasonable way of moving forward?
free the chucks!! thank you for putting this together
At the end of the day, a nunchaku is a pair of sticks connected by rope. The idea that such simple object should be made illegal is ridiculous. The purpose of banning such an object is also unclear. As a weapon, the nunchaku is not significantly more effective than a staff or a knife, unlike a gun. Therefore, banning a nunchaku does nothing in terms of promoting safety because there are other, everyday items which can match the effectiveness of the nunchaku (and which are also much easier to use). On the other hand, in terms of physical fitness or martial arts, the nunchaku is unique in that it helps develop a sort of strength and dexterity which is difficulty to acquire from other weapons/tools.
Please legalize this sport equipment.
Emotionally and reactionary arbitrary law that is very unfair.

It doesn't even make sense why they would be illegal, you gonna ban sticks and rocks next? They must have seen those bruce lee movies and been terrified. Stupid, stupid, stupid lawmakers.
I agree its a beautiful weapon, even more beautiful the art in which its used, i just don't get how a fire arm can be legal and knives devives that are able to penetrate and stab someone in their vital organs killing them, while nunchucks can be used for self defense with a nice wack nothing fatal
This is a stupid ban. How can people be allowed guns (which can easily kill multiple people quickly), but not nunchaku which is a much more limited weapon (in regards to killing people, especially multiple people)?
Incredibly stupid ban, but CA does some incredibly stupid things. I can head down to bass pro shop and pick up a rifle or shotgun no hassle.. but two sticks tied together? Watch up! Criminal over here!
Let's change this imbalance
This should be legal.
This was a preventative measure in the 1970s and is no longer necessary now.

I support the petition to legalize Nunchaku/Nunchucks in California. Let's change the law and make them legal. I know Hollywood has a few pair layin' around their studios so they can make movies using them, but the double standard has got to change. Hollywood is in California, but they're the only ones who get to use them right? New York and Arizona have legalized them, and it's time for California to do the same.
This law is outdated and compared to guns nunchuks are not even lethal.
California ban is unjust and the use over dramatized.
Except for television and competitions, I’ve never seen anyone carry or use nunchaku outside of the studio or practice arena... nuff said...
Self taught for 13 years, most ordinary folks who have no training are more likely to hit themselves than injure their target. As there are only a couple of angles of attack that keep the practioner safe from the stick coming back and either pinching the fingers or hitting any part of the practitioner's body hard enough to cause severe bodily harm.
These were banned in part due to prejudice beliefs as well as a misunderstanding of what nunchaku are. The second amendment is our right to bear arms, and as knives are allowed, so should this non-bladed, non-ballistic tool

I was a Police Officer for almost 20 years and never arrested anyone for using or possessing Nunchakus or any assault case where they were used. But a felony? Oh, carrying a a concealed firearm is a Misdemeanor? This should have never been put into law in the first place. Typical stupid California laws. This is a useless law and should be removed from the books immediately.
Legalize the nunchaku sticks. Dumb laws should be illegal.
When was the last time you heard of someone being killed or injured with a pair of nunchucks?
The thing with nunchucks is theyre nowhere near as deadly as a gun but you can carry guns. Nunchucks cant break bone very easily. You shoot a person in the right spot theyre going to die. Hitting someone in the head with nunchucks they might get a concussion and be knocked out but they most likely wouldnt die but if you shoot someone in the head theyre dead.
A baseball bat or knife can be more deadly than nunchucks but nothing wrong with carrying those around.
incredibly you can order a fully sharpened samurai sword on ebay but not a pair of wooden sticks tie with a rope.
We need them to become legal in California.
The law is centered around a social stigma. The Nunchaku is a tool for defense and should be treated as such. Legalize Nunchaku.
Martial Artists should be able to legally own them and practice with them. By all means, continue to prosecute those who use nunchaku to do harm to others, but simply owning them should not be a crime. A simple stick, bat, or practically any household tool could inflict just as much harm. Should broom handles be outlawed? How about axe handles?

By all means, continue to prosecute those who use nunchaku to do harm to others, but simply owning them should not be a crime. A simple stick, bat, or practically any household tool could inflict just as much harm. Should broom handles be outlawed? How about axe handles?

It's time to let martial artists and their weapons have legal access for practicing their art.

this has got to be one of the most ridiculous laws in california.
