The city council confirmed this morning that the budget has been officially approved for the installation of the tornado siren system. We are shifting our focus to monitoring the procurement process to ensure the equipment is sourced and operational within the next quarter.

Whereas: Tornado sirens have been proven to be an effective "last line" of rapid notification of a fast moving storm and/or tornado for outside and inside people and children... and
Whereas: There is great likelihood that federal government funding is available for part or all of the funding for sirens within the city of Hallsville...
We the undersigned request that the Hallsville Mayor, Hallsville City Aldermen, Hallsville School Board and other public officials make every effort to purchase, and install the sirens listed here in the City of Hallsville and not simply pass away the responsibility by saying... "we THINK that we cannot afford sirens..." and make a full report on the findings, availability to the public via news sources within the Hallsville area.

I have spent this week drafting formal inquiries to the City Aldermen regarding the specific federal funding avenues for siren installation. We are currently waiting for a scheduled response from the city office to confirm if a public hearing will be placed on the next council agenda.

The traction gained on this petition has moved the issue onto the city council's radar. I am currently preparing a formal request for a meeting with local officials to discuss the specific federal funding avenues for siren installation.

Every city, town and community that lives within the "Tornado Belt" needs a tornado siren. I support this petition.
I can not believe that Hallsville doesnt have these sirens. Just last week we had a tornado and there were no warnings. It doesnt help either that our local tv stations are Shreveport.
I can't believe it hasn't already been done. just a few dollars to save lives. This is a no brainer !!!
I think this would be a priority for us all to help give our children and the community a heads up if only a few minutes, which could save a life.
with satellite television & radio we don't always get or local news or even a signal. Sirens would be a huge plus for our community.

I thought we had them until it was proven that a tornado had hit. In bad storms we rely on those sirens to keep us safe! Hallsville, is not safe!!
