We are a group of people who believe your strategy concerning release of e-books, especially concerning the last book in The Wheel of Time series – is wrong, and harmful to both your business, your readers and the culture and future of books.

E-books are a new and amazing technology that allows for the democratization of reading to everyone all over the world, equality in release dates and availability of the literature you publish and represent. Different people have different preferences in the medium they enjoy their books; hardcover, paperback, e-books etc. We find your ignorance of this, and forcing your view on this disrespectful to all your loyal fans who want to enjoy your books.

In many countries, your books won't be available at the release date (if at all), to the grief of those who have faithfully followed this series for several years, making an electronic version available would democratize this and not discriminate those who might not live in central places.

Also, your choice of actually releasing e-books but pushing away the date sends an unfortunate message about your practice, and your value. It's supposed to be about the content, service to those who wish to pay for your content and the authors. The message that comes across is that you find the e-book inferior, and don't want to publish it at all, but will cave for some profit. All examples in recent time shows that people will pay for digital content IF it is made readily available and treated with respect. To treat it like an inferior product and make availability harder will, again shown by history in comparable markets lead to increased piracy and, at the bottom line, a lost profit for you and the author.

So, we wish to respectfully air this view to you, and plead you to reconsider your policy on e-book-formats in the future. We are fans of what you do, and wish to have access, and be able to pay for what you do – if it can be made available to us at reasonable terms.

Frustrated Fans of your work.
(ps: please stay respectful in the comments, thank you)
