Too Many Commercials !!
Are you tired of watching a TV show or listing to the radio and a commercial pops up almost every 10 minutes? I know I am. According to many websites the amount of minutes per hour have been steadily climbing. Broadcast networks average in 2009 was 13 minutes and 25 seconds per hour. In 2013 it is 14 minutes and 15 seconds per hour.
On Cable TV it has grown even more. In 2009 it was 14 minutes and 27 seconds on average. In 2013 it is up to 15 minutes and 38 seconds.
On top of that more commercials are being jammed in to the same amount of time. They are showing less 30 seconds spots and more 15 seconds spots. In 2009, 30-second spots accounted for 62% of all ads on television; 15-second spots were just 35%. In 2013, the percentage of 30-seconds fell to 53% and 15-second spots increased to 44%.
Now it is spreading to Youtube and many other websites. Something has to be done.
One thing I would like to see is combine all the commercial in the beginning of each hour on TV and radio. The first 10 minutes would be all commercials. If you want to see or hear them you can watch/listen in the beginning of every hour, if not, start watching/listening to your favorite program 10 minutes after the hour. I do understand this would be a tough sell.
The second option would be to limit the number of commercial per hour.
