Cllr Tony Page must resign
To: Cllr Tony Page, Reading Borough Council, cc Cllr Jo Lovelock, Leader, Reading Borough Council
We, the undersigned, call on you, Tony Page, to resign from your position as Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member with executive responsibility for Planning and Transport.
The grounds for this call are many, but here are three:-
1. Tony Page has repeatedly and deliberately misled the public over the disastrous Shinfield Road traffic lights scheme which he signed off. Works started in April 2010 when he was Executive Member for Transport, but he repeatedly claims the decision was taken by the Conservative/Liberal Democrat administration that only took office in May.
2. Tony Page has reinforced a ban on disabled people accessing much of Reading Town Centre for seven hours a day. He refused to reconsider the imposition of a ban on access to Blue Badge holders to roads such as Friar Street - a scheme not notified to disabled people and Reading Borough Council's Access Forum in advance, and which has resulted in numerous complaints.
3. Tony Page is the architect of the destruction of an integrated transport interchange around Reading Station. As Executive Member he signed off the closure of Station Hill to through traffic and the sale of part of the highway to developers. The plans were implemented before a planning brief for the area was put in place. He works as a freelance lobbyist and has as yet not disclosed who he works for.
