Colon cancer faces are getting younger and younger. The United States Preventative Services Task Force and the American Cancer Society recommend colon cancer screening at the age of 50. Dying of colon cancer at the age of 40 is no longer an exception nor is it rare. Please join me on my quest to get the American Cancer Society and the United States Preventative Task Force to review and change their colon cancer screening guidelines to start colon cancer screening at age 30 for the general population and at 25 for people with risk factors such as a family history of colon cancer. Effective cancer treatment for late stages is nowhere in the horizon, so early detection is key to survival. One more life needlessly lost to colon cancer is one too many. Please sign my petition and make sure to forward it to your friends.Your support is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to comment if you know someone under the age of 50 who has or had colon cancer or whose lives have been impacted by colon cancer. Let's work together and make a difference so that we can save other families from having to lose a loved one to colon cancer because of the screening age recommendations. My Dad was the best Dad anyone could ask for! He worked hard to provide for us. He always had a smile on his face and it could light up the room. He had the best personality, he was never down and out and always made people laugh. On December 30,2009 my Dad was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Colorectal Cancer, our lives were turned upside down. He went through very aggressive radiation and chemotherapy but the cancer continued to invade his body, and on March 10, 2010 we said goodbye to our Dad as he passed away into Jesus' waiting arms. My Dad was 41, doctors said that he had the polyps that turned into cancer for about ten years, he had no history of colon cancer in his family and had the screening age been lower, my Dad might have had the chance to beat this. When my Dad passed out Monday March 1, 2010 and we had to call 911 for him, we had no idea that when he left our house that day, he would never return. I know that God had a greater purpose and His will was done but the pain of losing my Dad has been unbearable and I wish to make a change so that others might not have to endure the pain we have. Every life leaves something beautiful behind, my Dad left a great legacy of love and kindness and I am proud to have been his son. I love you Dad! Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Let's make the colon cancer screening age at 30 a priority not an option!
