One of the nicest and friendliest people on the radio network. A professional and upbeat man who is delight to listen to. He certainly deserves this recognition of services to music,

It seems that you can get a knighthood for winning a medel in sport or being a businessman but you don't get one for serving the public tirelessly for six decades. After shamefully sacking him and then re-instating him, the Beeb even had the small-mindedness to give him such an early slot that he had to drive into London before sunrise to do his show, which he did without complaining. He wasn't my favourite dj when I was young - that was Kenny Everett (who would never have been given a knighthood, had he lived to be a hundred!) but Tony has been a steadfast professional entertainer for a great many years. He ought to be honoured - like Ringo - while he can still enjoy it!
