I have seen first hand what these artists go through to help create the character. They deserve their day in the sun.

Like for real now… why is there no hair and makeup category? Imagine ANY Broadway show without hair and makeup? Especially a large musical? HMU is NOT COSTUMES. These designers need as much recognition for their contribution to the production as any other designer.

Most actors admit that they aren't fully prepared in their character-until they see their complete visage revealed.

The amount of time, effort and talent that goes into hair/wigs and makeup should be given the attention it deserves. It can make or break a show and the people who do the work are part of the production, just like the cast.

This incredibly intricate field encompasses skills which are in no way executable by most costume designers. Just like set designers and costume designers must collaborate on aesthetic and color pallette, hair and makeup designers take a shared vision and create unique masterpieces all their own. Comparing the hair depicted in most costume renderings to the realized hair designs on stage, you will see the level of expertise and inspiration hair designers contribute, as they are rarely the same.
