As a Tony Winner in a category that took a while to establish, AND had a hiatus, I can state clearly that 1. In an equitable universe, Hair, Wig & Makeup designers 100% deserve recognition. 2. Audiences 100% notice and appreciate the artistry of these designers 3. Tony voters can certainly appreciate and evaluate the work these artists create in comparison to one another and 4. It is worth considering whether this field was not historically recognized due to notion that their work was "women's work."
These designers are past due on their recognition! Please welcome them to the table.

Do your shows without wigs, hair design or makeup design. Let's see how well that translates for character development. That work is an integral part of the audience experience.

In my many years as a costumer I have grown to appreciate the hair and make-up artists. The skill and expertise they bring can work wonders taking actors one more step towards a well rounded character. The more an actor looks like their character the easier it is for them to enter that reality.

Hair, wigs, and makeup are just as important as costumes in creating the character and building the world, this is long overdue!

Where would Broadway be without good wigs and makeup? It would like like high school productions.
