As a UCF alumni and now a successful engineer, I can say how critical a lab space is to stem creativity and learning of engineers. It not only fosters teamwork, technical interchange, and development, but a lab space allows the hands on experience that new engineers need before arriving in industry. Removing this capability will only hurt the future engineering classes.

The design lab has been very beneficial to me and my pursuit of a degree in aerospace engineering in that it provided a place where I could go to work on the various projects offered with AIAA

This lab has been the launching point for so many AIAA and SEDS projects here at UCF. Many of the projects offered by the club relay on a place to design and construct our projects. Without this space many of these projects become unfeasible or even impossible to complete. This lab offered so many students the opportunity to participate in great extracurricular design projects and widen there understanding of engineering as a whole. It is a shame that the college would even consider removing the lab, and its losses will certainly change the way SEDS and AIAA provide projects to their members.

Who's lab is this anyway? Wasn't this supposed to be for senior design? It would be nice if everyone could use this instead of two clubs trashing it.

The lab space in Engineering 2 room 114 has been a space that has provided an area for the AIAA to focus on projects and activities that allowed AIAA to develop and be acknowledged as the Organization of the Year in 2013-2014 as well as our Aviation Design project was declared Best project of the year for small groups by SGA. By removing the space that allows students and members to collaborate and network, you are undermining these accomplishments and limiting opportunities for students to learn skills needed and prided upon in the engineering community that we foster through the projects in our lab. Rocket Design, Aviation Design, Hovercraft Builds, FUNSAT, CANSAT, and others are all projects that need a defined space to which we can easily access, store and build at all hours. My personal experiences in these projects allowed me to branch out and explore the aerospace industry, develop necessary skills, foster relationships with other students, network with professionals, and also inspired me to pursue an officer position in the organization. By making this space a senior design lab, it is also at a disadvantage for the seniors who are working on their projects. Those seniors need a space that works with their specialized fields of industry. The AIAA lab provides such a space for aerospace seniors to work on projects such as Design Build Fly, but to put them in a combined space, it provides no advantage within a specialized discipline. Seniors need a creative space that works for them, but by turning it into a communal space, the lab holds no advantage to them than any other space on campus, such as the innovation lab. In short, the lab is more beneficial in the hands of AIAA then it would be for any other purpose as it is a specialized space. If the department truly insists on removing EGN 2 RM 114 from AIAA, then they must make accommodations for project storage as well as be willing to concede after-hours access to areas such as the innovation

While I haven't been part of the club for long, I do know the importance of a separate lab and work space for any engineering organization. It has almost the same feeling as one might find in a home.
