The addition of a 4th section would mean we would have 19 and 20 in a class respectively. Our classes currently have 26 students! The board determines the class size and have neglected this class at MGES while giving other 2nd grade classes in our district classrooms of 18-19 students. If we do not make our request, this unprecedented and disadvantageous class size will carry through the entire elementary experience for this group of children.

In 2013 when Dr Pladus and the school board made the decision to increase class sizes in some schools he was quoted as saying that the first grade at Maple Glen is being " most closely watched". It is clear that they were not watching and neglected to take the necessary changes to add a classroom this year. They watched as both behavioral and academic issues have occurred.

Please join us to advocate for our class of children and sign the petition to get a 4th section for our children.

Updates

I spent the morning looking at the board emails and honestly the silence from their office is just so loud right now. It is wild that they thought we would just accept twenty-six kids stuffed into one room while other schools get the space they need. I am working on a new letter that highlights the behavioral stuff we have seen lately because they need to acknowledge the reality of what is happening in those classrooms.

I think the administration should strongly consider adding a class or bringing in student teachers to assist in the classroom activites.

An additional problem to those being stated in this petition is that the school board has gone against their own policy. If we cannot follow our own charter and rules, why have rules?! Further, we choose to live in a good school district to give our children the best chance in life to succeed - larger class sizes clearly do not give our children the best chance to succeed. Please properly follow the school charter, and give our children the education that made us choose Upper Dublin as a place to send our children to school, and to be proud of that fact!

We are very unhappy with the large class size again this year, especially with the rollout of the new math program. I hope the board will take this into serious consideration.

I was not happy when these kids were lumped into such large class sizes back in first grade. With the amount of school tax we pay, I expect a smaller classroom size.

I agree that a 4th class is needed for 2nd Grade students. There are too many children in the classes taking away from the learning experience for our children.

I would like to see Mrs. Shamis stay on and have a 4th section carved out when Mrs Davido returns in January
