In response to Anthea Kisvarda, obviously alternate premises are needed and malta does not have a shortage of sound buildings. The building must be closed inorder to reinvent a more holistic approach,. u cannot patch up something in which its very foundations are corrupt.

Dear Anthia, to call it a facility is already a problem. All health deserves the same reform, enviornment, education and care, How do u compare Matterdei with Mountcarmel? what u did not understand avout this petiotion was the right to health

Every country needs to offer a mental facility it is just one that needs to follow proper humane procedures and regulations. One that is constantly audited and where transparency is mandated. Closing down a mental institution is not the answer just take a look at LA's skid row to understand that releasing the mentally unstable onto the streets to die a death of disease / drug overdoses and hyperthermia is not a humane option either. Restructuring / auditing and revamping Mount Carmen holding them accountable for their actions and bringing transparency would be a more valuable approach to an already disadvantaged group.

Christine: Its not only the premises thats needs changing but the the whole mental health force who thk it is their business to punish and subjugate a reform needs to be made by both the operation in union with building that reflects these morals .

Hi Christine, thku for yr sign, besides the macabre building it is the treatment that is in dire need of reform, care against punishment, and next of kin cannot be allowed in the eu to dispose of family without patients having access to lawyers. as regards the building, if their hearts were in it, God bless the Queen , it could have worked. u cannot trap people without a sofa, without a mirror, without a private space, without facilities for laundry, access to internet, it is a place designed to leave u out of society and eventualy meet the streets. we have had ample funds as we can see from matterdei and this place has not been touched since the 50's it is a disgrace to humanity. what visitors see is just a flicker of what goes on, but moreover negating u policy in treatment is as barbaric as their buildings.

I think they need new premises built . To remove the stigma from the name. Name should be change. Thanks Christine
