TLC's new show entitled My Monkey Baby is inappropriate because it promotes the keeping of primates as pets, surrogate children, and status symbols. Primates are wild animals and should not be kept by private individuals for personal gain or entertainment. What TLC's show fails to mention is the fact that there are serious public health and safety, animal welfare, and conservation risks involved in keeping monkeys in human households.
