Gig workers work for tips. Pay them more or allow them to collect tips. They are a huge part of the state fair institution and drive patrons to these locations, which helps drive sales at the bars. Keeping the musicians happy will allow for better performances which drives sales. Everyone wins

Absolutely the musicians should be allowed to have a tip jar. Let’s be real; they are providing free entertainment that is high value, period.

It’s fair for people in the service industry to have a tip jar to accept gratuity from patrons, and it should be the same for musicians, who are also in the Service Industry, to be able to receive and accept gratuity!

It is abhorrent to use musicians and other talented people to make money while preventing them from doing the same for themselves. This is a deliberate scam to siphon more money into the fair coffers at the expense of the people doing the work. No one is being coerced into giving anything by the presence of a tip jar, and fairgoers should be able to support musicians as they wish for the valuable service they provide.
Perhaps if musicians were 'on a stick' they would be worthy?

Being that COVID-19 hit musicians extremely hard, I feel as if this is necessary for us musicians to keep doing what we are doing. Music equipment, microphones, guitars, drums, strings, etc. do not come free.

It's literally the least they could do to allow musicians to bring their own tip jar.

As musicians, we work hard to load in, perform in all kinds of weather, and load out. Even if the state fair wants to up the guaranteed pay, it doesn’t make sense in any scenario to disallow tip jars. People will ask us where it is. Let the patrons tip.

If tips aren’t accepted, MN state fair needs to compensate those monies to artists through significant gig pay increases.
