Its GROSS to even think this is acceptable. Especially with COVID seeing that normal people will approach the musician to tip if there is not visible collection. What idiot decided this was a good idea?

As a musician myself, it bothers me that food vendors can take tips but we can’t. Time to change that.

I went to the fair last week and any place I paid with card also had a tip option..... why do they get tips when musicians don't? Rude.

You can’t pay professional musicians way below market standard for entertainment *and prohibit* tipping. That’s not providing “exposure,” it’s exploitation.

Music artists already get paid well below what they should. Current rates of pay for musicians have not changed since the early 90s. The only thing that has a chance of raising artists pay to reasonable levels is the generosity of their fans. Dollars earned by musicians pays for the gas it takes to get to shows, maintenance of their vehicles and equipment which can cost thousands of dollars. Many musicians also donate a portion of their tips to worthy causes such as military families, cancer research, support for thecworlds poor and more. Your ban on tip collecting affects the success of the worlds important organizations as well as a musicians pocket. The money collected by musicians is g8ven freely by their fans and is ofte a gauge of the success of the performance. By not allowing tips, musicians will not know whether playing at your event was even worthwhile. Lastly, not allowing tipping is an insult to our art and will give your event a black eye for years to come.

The state fair and the bars/venues pushing this rule are in many cases paying lower than industry rates to bands and then restricting them from making up the difference with a tip jar. It’s wrong and needs to change!!

This is ridiculous MN State Fair!! Tip jars are not offensive or uncomfortable- they’re as common as any instrument on stage and Minnesotan’s not only expect them to be there, but they appreciate them! Get your act together!
