Timing change for school to be reverted back

Dear sir
I hope this letter finds you well.
Let me begin by congratulating you and the entire team on the exceptional organization of the recent Sports Day. The event was a true testament to Mount Carmel’s commitment to fostering holistic development, as the students displayed remarkable talent, discipline, and enthusiasm. It reinforced our belief that we made the right choice in entrusting our child’s education to such a dedicated institution.
However, today I am writing to you as a concerned parent. I was surprised to hear during the Sports Day announcements that school closure timings are set to increase from 2 PM to 2.30 PM. While I am sure this decision was made with good intentions, it raises several concerns that I feel compelled to share.
Long Hours: The extended timings, combined with travel time, will result in students spending 9–10 hours away from home daily. This is significantly longer than the hours observed by most schools in Delhi, which typically maintain a more balanced schedule. Such extended hours can lead to physical and mental exhaustion, diminishing students' ability to engage effectively in self-study or pursue extracurricular activities.
Compromised Study and Extracurricular Time: One of Mount Carmel’s strengths has been its ability to balance academics with extracurricular and personal development activities. This balance will be disrupted as students will have minimal time left after school for sports, arts, and other pursuits that are critical to building a well-rounded personality.
Health Concerns Due to Delayed Lunch: Extending the school day will push lunch into the late afternoon for many students, which can negatively impact their energy levels and overall health. A long, continuous schedule without timely meals can lead to fatigue and reduced concentration, ultimately affecting academic performance.
Impact on Family Time: For working parents like us, the extended hours leave little room for quality family interaction. Evenings are often the only time families can connect, discuss the day, and provide emotional support. This change will significantly strain this crucial aspect of a child’s emotional and social development.
Timings Were a Key Factor in Choosing Mount Carmel: One of the reasons parents like us chose Mount Carmel was its thoughtfully designed schedule, which allowed students to excel academically while maintaining a healthy balance with other life priorities. Altering this schedule without prior consultation undermines the trust parents place in the school’s decisions.
No Consultation: A change of this magnitude, impacting the daily lives of students and families, warrants prior discussion and consent from the parent community. Transparent and collaborative decision-making is fundamental to the school-parent partnership that Mount Carmel has always valued.
I understand the school’s intent to provide the best for its students, but such a significant change requires broader consultation to assess its implications. I urge the school to reconsider this decision or at least engage with parents to explore alternative approaches that address the school’s objectives without compromising the students’ well-being, family time, and overall balance.
Looking forward to your understanding and a constructive resolution.
