The Sacandaga Golf Club originally opened in 1898. While it is currently closed, it is the second oldest golf course in New York State. The course’s overall importance to the Adirondack Park area and its history must be considered. The golf course’s current owner committed to the prior owner to invest the necessary capital in bringing the course to a level comparable to other courses in the same proximity. Unfortunately, this has not happened.

The course remained open for the first two years; however, the new owner did not live up to its promises. The community at large supported this purchase and provided their time and support throughout the clubhouse opening process. They purchased memberships and patronized the business continuously while it was opened. A local golf pro with over 40 years of experience promoting golf as a family activity stepped up to assist in making this a successful transition. The golf pro's suggestions to improve the course and planned activities were not considered despite his years of golf experience and being a local Northville resident. At the end of the second year, plans were communicated by the owner to develop the golf course despite the current zoning.

The Sacandaga Park Golf Course is currently zoned as ‘golf course only’ that prohibits any residential and commercial development. The new owner became bitter that the town and surrounding community did not accept the development plans. In response, the owner deliberately ruined the course by planting trees, creating a dirt wall and harvesting a corn field on what once was the driving range; all to upset neighbors.

The course has remained closed since the 2020 season. We are now experiencing the third year of a closed golf course, while golf as an industry has experienced a significant growth, stemming from the Pandemic that hit in 2020.

The Sacandaga Park and its surrounding community are devastated to see this golf course closed. It has a historical presence in the Adirondack Park and NYS. Families have played this course generationally and would like the opportunity to continue to make memories. Our beloved golf course has been held hostage by a wealthy businessman who took advantage of a sick, elderly person by making promises to continue operating the golf course. It is now clear that the new owner’s intent was always to develop the property into residential homes and condominiums, and cash out without any sentiment to its historical significance.

This petition is asking for your support of our request to the Town of Northampton officials to assist us with reopening the golf course!

For donations please use our GoFundMe website at https://gofund.me/eada0d06 . All donations will be used for legal fees that will be necessary for our group to fund the town’s expense in this effort to reopen the golf course.

Thank you!
