Time limits for tennis players? Time for a response - a request to the ATP & ITF

I think players should be allowed 30 seconds now, when so many rallies are long & exhausting. Whar's the point of a quick game if the players aren't ready to give their best.

The powers that be need to look at the origin of this rule and understand that they are using it in a different way now. With the physicality of the game today, players need more time between points to recover after longer points. These are elite athletes, and if they need the recovery time but can't take it, they may try other ways of "getting fitter," (see cycling). Get rid of the rule. The amount of time it saves is negligible anyway over the course of the match.

This is getting ridiculous and changing the enjoyment of the game. Either enforce all the rules or none. I'm much more bothered by swearing and racquet abuse than by a few seconds over the time limit.

They should penalise the racquet breakers and foul language .. Remember there are kids at most matches this is showing bad example .. And the 20 seconds is too short at least 30 seconds is more appropriate especially after a 32 strokes they need to compose themselves .. And it's not like they will take 30 seconds at every game ..

I dislike the rule entirely. If we must be subjected to it I think the Grand Slam limit should be longer than the ATP limit, being best of 5. Players should not be penalised without supplying them a clock.

More emphasis should be placed on verbal and racquet abuse, unfortunately this is not It does appear that many umpires including Carlos Bernardes are only interested in enforcing this time violation against 1 player and at crucial times in a match Either do it fair or not at all, this abuse can be misconstrued as match fixing too, and I for one would not like my favourite sport being tarnished further. If swearing from the likes of Murray and Sock are to go unheard and Racquet abuse from the likes of Djokovic and Gulbis are to go unseen it makes a complete mockery up rules and regulations associated with this great sport Please sort it out otherwise this will turn into a witch hunt, and tennis will start to lose its fans and viewing!

If ATP must apply the TVRule, please do the following: A) Have a clock on court so players can monitor themselves B) Do not impose TVW in an arbitrary or inconsistent manner!

This "rule" seems only to be aimed at one person. I feel we have a right to know what is going on. Long rallies are wonderful to watch, but then to expect a player to be ready to serve within 20 seconds after that long rally is ridiculous. Also, why wait until an important tie break to initiate a time violation. Why are obscene swearers and racket smashers not punished - the language of our present No. 1 is appalling. IMO there is something very underhand and dishonest going on.

This is one petition I cannot wait to sign. In addition the imposing of the time violations has already changed the natural progression of the game.

Not to mention that it's much more enjoyable to watch players that play and serve quickly, and play a classic, elegant game, e.g. Federer, versus the yawn-inducing Nadal. Now there's a guy who should be given a lifetime violation for continuous slow play. Or will we have to have special umpires for him?

I agree with this. The issuing of time violations has its place but they need to be given out fairly and across the board. It seems certain players are being singled out again and again and even worse at crucial times in the matches, for example at break point. While I realize this is not a massive world issue... it does ruin the enjoyment of the sport. And since the fans are paying top dollar (myself included) to watch all of our favorite players, we would appreciate less insinuation of the Chair and just the beauty of the match as tennis is the most beautiful sport.

How can you issue violations without a shot clock on court? And if a player is a serial offender, why do some umpires wait until critical points to take a serve away??!
