Time limits for tennis players? Time for a response - a request to the ATP & ITF

The random apply gives the umpire too many possibilities to influence the outcome of a match. Get a shotclock, apply the rule equally for all players and give them some more time in certain situations. The modern high intensity game isn't compatible any more with this outdated rule. Is tv scheduling behind this new craze?

This rule needs a complete work over, since IMO it isn't compatible with the high intensity modern way of playing. And the rule needs to be applied consistently

Within reason, the time taken between points is not important but the quality of the tennis is. Tennis lovers want to see matches with long and varied rallies, rather than those with monotonous games of huge unreturnable serves. The adherence to strict time keeping with no regard to the actual amount of tennis played in each point seems nonsensical and the blatant inconsistent application allows for match skewing at best and match fixing at worst!

This rule was introduced a long time ago when rallies were short and the game not as exhausting. The 20 and 25 second limit should be revisited given today's baseline power game. This rule also favours the big servers, and is open to abuse by umpires enforcing it during breakpoints which influences the outcome of the match.

Get a clock on court counting down. Stop issuing warnings on crucial points while players have been taking too long for most of the match. Timewasting in tennis is "a tempest in a teapot" watch any football game. Better still be flexible rather then enforcing it strict.

The rule shall be applied acccording to the certain written and known regulations. It should be clear and obvious decision.

Consistency and common sense should prevail. RULES ARE RULES and need to be adhered too.

I have always believed that the job of an umpire or referee should be as discreet as possible and he/she should never unduly influence the flow of the game or the outcome. The application of this time violation rule has done both those things and has made watching tennis a much less rewarding experience.

I totally agree something has to be done about the inconsistency of this rule. I personally don't think a shot clock is the answer. I also think there are worse things than taking a little longer than 20/25 seconds between points - bad language, ball or racquet abuse bring the game in to disrepute more and should be stamped down on first.

I don't like this rule for any player. There is no consistency. I would hate a shot clock even worse. This is an individual sport -- I want to see players doing their best and not having to have an eye on a shot clock.

Very bad officiating and unfair timing of applying the rules. Treat all players fairly and the same, and don't wait until a crucial moment in a match to apply a rule ignored up until that moment. Ridiculous.

I support this petition and believe that something must be done to ensure the integrity and fairness of this sport.

The timing of the warnings and violations on nadal is ridiculous they are using him for a scapegoat the whole rule is stupid

It is nonsense to apply time violation to a player who is lunging after a long rallies. It is a game spoiler and as a spectatator, I do not appreciate it. Moreover, I see this rule lacks consistency. Need a change.. Period.
