We the undersigned are petitioning in pursuit of the following two objectives:
1) We are petitioning the Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory to put in place legislation to ban the sale of water in plastic bottles in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The production and improper disposal of plastic bottles represents a significant environmental concern. One that we feel can be easily addressed by putting in place appropriate legislative measures.
2) We are petitioning for the Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory to put in place mechanisms that will ensure the installation of drinking water fountains in public areas where people can drink and fill reusable water bottles. The infrastructure is already in place to deliver inexpensive, clean and safe drinking water to private dwellings and business. We argue that this should also be the case in public areas. Currently there is very little access to water in public spaces in the ACT. Because of this people are likely to buy water in disposable plastic bottles, subsequently causing unnecessary damage to the environment.
BAN THEM NOW. too much waste for something that comes out of our taps for free anyway.
