The HR 347 Bill that has been drawn and recently put into law by our federal government is one of the most glaring examples of what the federal government has become. It has become government for the sake of government. It is a law that in effect is an attempt to marginalize, silence, stifle, and worst of all OUTLAW our constitutional right to object anything that our government is doing. I first heard about the bill from a friend of mine and I read it immediately. It is now being advertised as a push back against the Occupy movement, I sadly think that fails miserably. I also think that this is a ruse to distract us from what the bill ACCTUALLY does which is limiting ALL OF US in our God given right of freedom to tell government what they shouldn’t be doing. The last few years have been met with an unprecedented amount of demonstrations over a broad range of issues and depending what your idea of government is, you no doubt rooted for one side or another. Regardless of if your political affiliation, the common thread that we all share is that we are Americans. At some point we all have exercised our rights endowed to us by our Creator, in the opinion of some perhaps taken advantage of, but none the less they are OUR rights. This right to free speech is the same as religion, liberty, life, and the pursuit of happiness. They are the right given to me and all of my fellow citizens which can’t be taken away due to the whim of an elected official just because they do not like what I have to say. For the sake of argument, if this is a push back against the Occupy movement it is still not power of government to pass a law limiting the free speech of ANY citizen. The fact that this bill was passed in order to do that is appalling. The widespread corruption and incompetence of government is apparent to me now. This bill passed with a landslide vote in the House of 399-3. Only 3 votes against a bill which in a part states that it is now a felony to object to where a government official MIGHT be. This bill was written by a Republican, passed through a bipartisan Congress, and written into law by a Democratic President. This was truly a team effort to push against what we can say to our inept officials. Our current government is completely unrecognizable to what our founders fought against to give the rights that are now being infringed upon. As an elected official, you are to SERVE the public trust and help protect the aforementioned rights. The government of this country is NOT meant to tell us when we can or cannot agree with what any corrupt government official has to say. This is my effort, and my RIGHT OF FREE SPEECH to convey that if this is the direction that our country is headed then none of us has a future.
