Of course this sell-out union would miss this clause.

Just like the $1000 bonus, the reality is far from the promise.

We should force the PSC and CUNY to account for a provision that was not ratified by our membership!

It seems like the "up or out" provision is punitive.

Once again, PSC hierarchs, rather than challenging two-tier, are reinforcing it, making it more onerous and widening the job security gap.

Please resolve this totally unnacceptable grey area regarding the 3 yr adjunct appointments in an unambiguous and conclusive manner. Adjuncts would never have voted for more job insecurity.

To Paul: We are public employees. The NLRB does not apply - any grievance that we might file would be decided by PERB.
To Everyone: Please contact your friends and colleagues and ask them to sign the petition. The "up or out" provision was not in the contract; it is a material provision, i.e., concerns a significant issue; and we didn't vote on a contract that contained such a provision. We need to enter the conversation now, before any procedures re the three-year appointment have been finalized or implemented.
Thanks to all who have already signed!

NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) should intervene on this issue, so as to restore this totally unfairly crafted & confusing / purposefully vague "Agreement" which worse-than-compromises Adunct "rights" OR privileges to even work.

This has to stop. Adjuncts are very important to the success of any college program

Not only is this unfair to adjuncts but This is a material change to the agreement between the PSU and CUNY. It is very important to recognize the value of and provide security for PSU members.
Thank you

One year appointments for Adjuncts should not be tied to whether or not a 3 year appointment is granted!!!

For a contract that was supposed to add to adjunct security, the confusion over the 2 vs. 3 year contracts and the hoops each would entail, have only INCREASED our insecurity. I am opting for the 3-year, largely because if I didn't, I'd worry that when I went to renew that 2-year spot, too many spaces would have been preempted.

I am very worried about this and feel that I have been put in a compromising position by this new provision. Thank you for your efforts on our behalf.

This is but one of many problems with these appointments and their implementation. If an adjunct qualified for both the 2- and 3-year appointment and decided not to opt for the 2-year one, the ability to get a 3-year contract now depends on whether one gets 6 credit hours for the spring, leaving open the possibility that departments could purge long-term adjuncts and disqualify them from being eligible for the 3-year appointment. When I asked about this, I was told that the union's executive director responded that they are "acutely aware of this potential problem, and the union leadership has urged Dept. chairs to make sure that adjuncts eligible for a 3-year appt. get 6 credits in the spring since they've been teaching 6 credits per semester consistently for several years." I do not find this in any way reassuring, and it only demonstrates to me that adjunct security and stability was, as always, a second thought for the union who did not think this through properly and is now trying to blame CUNY for these issues.

This sounds like it is designed to discourage adjuncts from seeking greater security. We need an explicit statement that this is NOT the case. This is not analogous to the tenure process, however disingenuously it may be cast as such. It is best viewed as the end of a very long probationary period. To act otherwise is to display the most repressive, anti-labor behavior.

I agree with this petition. Administration should disclose hiring considerations and practice under the 3-year contract proposal. The issue of who is or not eligible for a 3 years contract should be clarified, and the process of consideration must be explained accuratedly to all constituents. Issues of who gets hired after working for an extended period of time, and who should not, must be overseed by the Union.
