Dear VSB,

We understand that a three-bin waste system was planned to be implemented at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary earlier this fall, but that the project has been delayed. This proposal is extremely important to our school and is supported heavily by our student body.

A waste audit conducted by a group of Sir Winston Churchill Students found that 57% of our school’s waste could be composted and 22% recycled. Our school, being the largest in Vancouver, produces a significant amount of waste; if the three-bin system were implemented, however, we could cut down enormously on the volume of waste sent to the landfill.

Reducing our school’s environmental impact is of great importance to us, and introducing the proposed waste system would be a major victory in this regard. In addition, this waste system could further Vancouver’s goal of earning the title of “World’s Greenest City” by 2020.

We look forward to the new waste system and hope that it comes to Sir Winston Churchill soon.

Sincerely,

Students of Sir Winston Churchill Secondary
