To be presented to the elders at the Jackson Heights congregation. This petition contains the names of the individuals and families that are in favor of the elders’ proposed discontinuation of Sunday evening services. The purpose of this petition is not to force or push this move, but to make it clear as to whom would be in favor of the proposed discontinuation. Those who have signed this understand that this is merely their input and that they want to be heard as in favor of the discontinuation. They also will be pleased to submit to the elders’ final decision on this matter.

They believe that a second service on Sunday is not an inappropriate or bad thing, but it’s solely a traditional man-created thing.

Those who have signed this petition also believe that there is no scriptural basis for a second meeting on Sunday and that one can neither prove nor disprove its need or value using the scriptures.

While in favor of the discontinuation, and the belief that there are potential benefits and merit in doing so, those who have signed this petition have no desire to create conflict, instability, or friction with brethren who do not prescribe to this stance at this time. Unity as brothers and sisters, and as the bride of Christ matters far more than these opinions. Whatever decision is ultimately made by the elders regarding this matter, those who have signed this petition agree that the brethren at the Jackson Heights congregation should submit to that decision and proceed forward all together in unity and love.

1 Corinthians 16:14 “Let all that you do be done in love.”

Romans 12:9 “Let love be without hypocrisy—by abhorring what is evil, clinging to what is good, 10 being devoted to one another in brotherly love, giving preference to one another in honor, 11 not lagging behind in diligence, being fervent in spirit, serving the Lord”

Philippians 2:1 “Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 fulfill my joy, that you think the same way, by maintaining the same love, being united in spirit, thinking on one purpose, 3 doing nothing from selfish ambition or vain glory, but with humility of mind regarding one another as more important than yourselves, 4 not merely looking out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
