My name is Joe and I live on Rosewood Drive, off Thornell near East Street.

I’m concerned with pedestrian safety on Thornell...specifically the bend in the road between Oak Leaf and Pine Needles Drive. Without a sidewalk or other safety alternative, it is risky to navigate that bend on foot. As a result, my family has curtailed a favorite activity - walking trips to the basin for coffee, breakfast, shopping, and just sitting by the canal.

Starting back in 2010, I’ve been petitioning town leadership on my own. With your signature, I hope together we can encourage town leadership to give the following request consideration & priority:

Ideally a continuation of sidewalk from Southern Woods Drive to Rt96 or at the very least, a solution for the bend in the road between Oak Leaf and Pine Needles Drive.

Thank you for joining this petition.

I met with the town planning department this week to present the signatures we have collected so far. They are acknowledging the danger at the bend in the road but we need to keep the pressure on them to fund a concrete solution. Post the link to your Facebook page today and email your local council representative to demand this sidewalk project moves to the front of their budget queue.

The momentum behind this request proves the town can no longer ignore the danger on Thornell Road. Email your town council representative today and demand they visit the bend between Oak Leaf and Pine Needles.

This safety measure is long overdue. Since there are 'blind' curves in both directions auto and motorcycle traffic tend to lean to the right to avoid colliding with oncoming traffic. In doing so they tend to encroach on the narrow shoulders of the road endangering unseen pedestrians and bicyclists.

I commute to work by bike often and need to take this curve every morning. I agree, it's a dangerous section of road. A sidewalk here would be an absolute game changer for all of the neighborhoods looking for safe, easy access to the Basin. Thanks, Eric.

I am a parent who lives in the same neighborhood and I do not feel comfortable with my kids biking on Thornell, which means we have to drive our bicycles down to the canal. This seems rather silly, not to mention wasteful. Let's get a sidewalk built!

I run from my home on great oak lane to the basin almost daily. I also run the curve noted in the original submission, as well as the curve between my neighborhood and east st and have had some close calls with cars on the narrow birm. I would love to see a sidewalk here!

I drive this road to and from work every day. It's a perfect example of how our communities are built for cars but not for people. Please don't wait until someone is seriously injured or killed to make this road safe for pedestrians.

If Town leadership does not think there is a need, they should understand that the lack of foot traffic is not due to a lack of interest, but a fear of injury or death. I live within 1.5 miles of the Basin and have walked that bend twice in 30 years.

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and has been a concern of the residents of this area for many years. We need a sidewalk so that the neighbors can SAFELY walk to the Basin.

Thank you for starting this! I live on East St with little ones and while we love that we have such an active pedestrian/bike riding/runner community, I wish we had sidewalks to keep us safe! People need to slow down but I dont want to limit my and my children's activity due to a lack of safety. I don't live on 390!
