We must learn about the good and bad of our history- it is the only way we can grow. History is just that a story of our past and then it can become a healthier vision to our future.

Thomas Jefferson was an integral part of our country’s history and TJ High School is part of my history. Changing the name will not erase it.

I'm not a TJHS grad, but I am a loooong time FW resident and FWHS grad. Although Jefferson did own slaves, he wasn't entirely comfortable with it. It was a different time. Jefferson - despite this failing (and *ALL* humans are fallible) - ge gave our nation some of its most prized possessions. Let's remember him for those, and practice a little forgiveness.

We can't nor should we erase our history. He was a founding father of our country. If you examine closely in history, no historical figure would measure up and that includes today's politicians and recent presidents. The school wasn't name after him because he was a Saint, but because was a historical figure in our country's early history. The next thing you know, people will found fault with George Washington and we will be renaming our entire state!

Look at our Alma Mater. We are as proud now as we were when we picked the name of the amazing things Thomas Jefferson did.

Leave the name as is. Yes, Thomas Jefferson owned slaves but that was common at the time. Concentrate on the good he did and not the mistakes he made. None of us are perfect.

Thomas Jefferson was a diverse man of his time. We cannot overlook his other accomplishments because he owned slaves which was accepted in the time he lived. We cannot erase our culture or history. If we forget will we be domed to repeat it. We have to look forward to move forward.
