In light of the recent massacre of children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, as well as the numerous other shootings that have taken place across our country, We the People of the United States of America call for the following changes to our nations gun control laws.  The only purpose of these proposed changes is to prevent the undocumented purchase of firearms by criminals and those diagnosed with mental disorders.

  1. Repeal of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 (FOPA).
  2. Re-invoking of the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), preventing firearm dealers with a Federal Firearms License (FFL) from doing business at gun shows.
  3. For semi-automatic handguns, bullet clips are to be limited to no more than 17 rounds in a single clip.
  4. A mandatory two-week waiting period for the purchase of all firearms.
  5. Purchase of firearms must be accompanied by a mandatory safety and training class of 4 to 8 hours in length.  These safety and training classes are to be taught by local police officials.
  6. All former U.S. Military personnel and police are exempt from this training.  Instead of a training certificate, purchasers of firearms must only present some form of ID or certification showing that they were formerly or currently are members of the U.S. Military or a Police Force.
  7. After the two-week waiting period, the purchase of a firearm will only be allowed if the purchaser presents a valid training certificate.
  8. Once completed, the Firearm Safety Training Class Certificate is good for all other firearm purchases.
