In a article 12/9/2014 it was announced that the new chief of police in Topeka, Kansas has decided that the price of sending extra law enforcement into our children's schools is just far too much for the department to do anymore. At the present time the 501 district is paying the amount of $366,000 and that is only for four officers which would barely cover our schools. The former chief had found it in his heart to provide a total of 11 officers to the schools which was greatly appreciated. The school district has already been cutting school budgets as is which is why I find it disturbing that the suggestion was thrown out to rework the budgets or make more cuts to be able to pay for more officers in our schools. As a parent of three school aged children it makes me feel as if we are asked to choose between our children's education or their safety, and that is not right! The most troubling part to me is our city is fighting to save an old racetrack but is not fighting for our kids safety. As disturbing as it is to think about in today's world not even our schools are a safe place for our children as it has been proven time and time again with the amount of violence in schools and multiple school shootings that have been in the news.I ask everyone to find it in your heart to take a couple of minutes of your time to sign and share this petition to let the chief know that our kids are our most important asset and we should protect them at all cost!!!!
