Over the past two years, the school, from my perspective has changed. From new teachers, to more challenging subjects academically, the school has truly changed from when I first came here just over a year and a half ago. As I entered the 9th grade this year, I felt that there was one issue, though it may seem minor; it affects almost half of the current student body at this school. That issue is: “Students simply do not have enough time to move from class to class.” Though some people may argue that five minutes is more than enough time to walk from one class to another, I beg to differ. Many of my friends, who I know, as well as many people who I don’t, face this problem as well. At Qatar Academy, teachers do not accept tardiness, as they feel that students should get to their classes on time as they think that every student is capable of running from one class to another in under five minutes. Students do not actually care much about getting late by a minute or two, but instead, they fear the grave consequences that they may face, if they are late to many teacher’s classes. These punishments usually come in the form of detentions at break time, lunch, after school on a Thursday, and then if the problem escalates, it could lead to getting parental involvement by sending home emails, text messages or even getting the parents to have a meeting with the grade manager or the school head if needed, about their child’s persistent problem of not being able to get to their respective classes on time. In the process, the students reputation hinders in the eyes of both his parents, as well as his teachers, but in real fact, it is probably not his or her fault that they cannot run from a class in block B all the way to block C, whilst getting things from their lockers in under 5 minutes. As anyone can see, getting late to a class seems like a small issue, but in real time, it can affect students on a much larger scale. The solutions that I have in mind include having times between classes extended by 2-3 minutes, or making classes all on the same side of the school so that students do not need to run from one block to another.
