Producer Avi Lerner has recently stated that the upcoming action movie 'The Expendables' might very well be released with a PG-13 rating. This movie, starring such 80s action beasts as Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren and Bruce Willis as well as more recent bad-asses such as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Jet Li and Jason Statham, could without a doubt be the action movie of the century. But if movie history has taught us anything, it is that an action movie is only truly great if it has a R-rating (Die Hard, Predator, The Terminator) whereas softened-up PG-13 kiddy-films like Die Hard 4 and Terminator Salvation seem to become forgotten and uninteresting. If we can't enjoy random sprays of blood, people losing limbs and the hero shouting "Yippee kay-ay Motherfucker!", then what's the point of the action movie We want the adrenaline rush! Also, the main target audience for this film is clearly the action-flick fanboys (like yours truly) who worships the gritty action movies of the 80s. A movie with all the 80s stars thrown together in one film is a dream come true! But if this film turns out to be PG-13, I may very well not even bother seeing it in the cinema (wheras I would probably see it 6 times in the cinema if it is R-rated). Please, Avi Lerner! Don't be seduced by moralist, family-friendly Happy Meal-Hollywood, and give this movie a rating it deserves! We want an R-Rated "The Expendables"!
