As loyal customers for many years at The Boater public house,Icknield Way, Luton, Bedfordshire we have spent thousands of pounds drinking here and using the entertainment facilities. Not only have Greene King removed two of the best publicans in England, Ken Brett & Jayne Hill, they are shutting the little bar and turning it into a restaurant despite the fact that the big bar is more than adequate for eating in and it already has tables and chairs in there anyway, the little bar or "sports bar" is ideal for those of us who want to watch football, play pool, the games machines and darts and listen to the jukebox in peace and away from the family area next door. Now we cant use the pool table, play darts, watch football properly or use the jukebox and to add insult to injury only they are not opening the little sports bar again so we cant watch the world cup in there!!what a crazy decision when so much money could be made; this has stripped the pub of all its personality and atmosphere; a friendly atmosphere where everyone knows each other. Quite clearly Greene King has failed to understand the demographics of the area and wants to create a "gastro pub" when all we want to do is to have a drink in our unpretentious pub, be merry and have fun-we dont want a silly little restaurant!!stop trying to posh up our pub-we like it how it is!! in uncertain financial times like these where local pubs are closing down every day, Greene King should be doing what they can to retain the customer base they have built up, not discouraging loyal hard-working people by removing the very reasons why we visit this pub in the first place. After all these years of loyalty we feel that not only have we helped to keep this pub open but our opinions and needs have been cast aside Greene King owe it to us to listen to what WE want. Please join this petition and hopefully we will get Greene King to see sense!!
