This movie reveals things that we are not supposed to be seeing. It will badly affect our younger brothers most probably cause disruptions and unnecessary confusions to those who never went there

Where do we draw the line? As a film maker, heritage practitioner and most importantly a Xhosa woman I think it is very disrespectful to create and develop content for the purpose of sensationalism. These people know exactly what will be controversial and develop content around controversial matters. Nakane is an actor and has no say in the creative process of a producer or a director his job is to obtain the script from the film production company, learn his lines and be onset on time and perform. I am sure as a Xhosa man there were instances where he was not comfortable; however his job was to act and not question the director. Going forth as African’s we must be really strict and scrutinise organisations such as the Department of Arts and Culture and National Heritage Council etc. as to who tells our stories and what are the guidelines. It is not the first time a film about the passage into manhood has been told; a few years ago the SABC cancelled the screening of a series with the same subject matter immediately. As a Xhosa woman I respect this ritual as my father, my brothers and many men that I respect, cherish and love undertook it and I need not know the details pertaining to the subject matter in discussion. Mayor of Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality Mr Trolib said something very profound earlier this year I quote, “Isiko lolwaluko lisiko elihloniphekileyo kunyanzelekile siqhube silihlonipha”. A whiteman said this so race has nothing to do with it. It is disrespect from those who do not care about our traditions, who disrespect our traditions and these are the very descendants of the very same people who colonised us. Inxeba labacinizeleli ayilonxeba laba Ntsundu ngoba kuthi lulwaluko kwaye siyalubhiyozela asilucinezeli. (Wound of the oppressors not of the Africans because we celebrate this coming of age) nxa. Rha, they are done colonising us now they want to kill our human dignity by cheapening our customs and traditions which our forefathers

It is of great disrespect of our Xhosa culture to display our Xhosa initiate. Our culture should be respected and dignity should be shown towards it as it play a great role in our growth as we develop from boys to men keeping this part of culture as secret strengthens the role of it as it teaches boys how to behave ,respect and have dignity as men.
