I visited the refugee camps in 2011 as part of the Sahara marathon event which raises awareness. These are beautiful people who do not deserve to be treated like this and kept away from their homes. Almost a decade has passed since I visited. This must be put right.

For too many years, freedom and self-determination have been a dream for the people of Western Sahara. There must be a referendum; the Sahrawis deserve to have their state finally recognized by the world. The right to choice was promised to them and it has been ignored for too long.
