As a prior student I believe the amount of homework received by elementary students every night is unnecessary. Studies show assigning large amounts of homework each night have more negative effects than positive.

Homework itself is not a bad thing. In fact, about 10 minutes of homework a night per grade level can be beneficial to a student. A good rule to set is the 10-minute rule. An example of this is 10 minutes in first grade, 20 minutes in second grade, 30 minutes and third grade and so on. When a student must stay up until 2:00AM every morning finishing English homework, there is a problem. Many resources have stated that having too much homework takes away much needed rest, builds stress, and cuts into time that could be spent with friends and family. I am not asking for NO homework or studying, I am asking for a regulation of some sort on the amount of homework an elementary student receives on a daily basis.

Please take what has been said into consideration. Students are more stressed than ever and the amount of homework a student receives every day needs to decrease.
