The British government is directly responsible for the decline in native of speakers of all the Gaelic languages (Gaidhlig, Gaeilge, and Gaelg). It's insulting and inappropriate to associate that government with a school that is trying to revitalize Gaidhlig and Scottish Gaelic culture.

We live in a time that should have moved past the Monarchist type mentality. Let's be proud to have Canadian, Scottish, Irish etc to celebrate. The pre-fix Royal brings up many images of the past where the Monarchy did nothing to support culture but instead did everything to destroy that which was not English.

I'm a republican, and thus oppose prefixing things "royal" on principle, but even conservatives were pissed off at this one, which really drives home how historically insensitive this decision was

I find it difficult to build a unified culture in Canada which celebrates diversity, equality, and multiculturalism if we keep allowing ourselves to be overshadowed by the UK and their Queen.

How could you think Gaels would want this after years of Royal-endorsed cultural genocide?

The addition of the title "Royal" is an offence to the historical injustices committed against the Celtic peoples by the English Crown. One need not look back to the 18th century for examples in spades! Even early in the 20th century the occupation continued in Ireland. There is nothing "Royal" about the Gaelic College and the Board of Governors must backtrack and graciously inform our Queen that use of the title has been reversed.
You are an idiot for creating this petition .
