I had the great privilege and pleasure of visiting Turkiye 6 years ago. At that time, the confidence in the government was high, and the national spirit was good. The regression of the past few years is troubling, and the government must not crack down because there was a coup. The coup shows that the government was already going in the wrong direction. It is time for Erdoğan to realize he is taking a destructive direction for the nation he claims to love.
