It looks like though the coup failed, Turkey has still ended up with a military state. I recall a quote from Erdogan, as recounted by the king of Jordan in an interview, where he says that democracy is like a bus ride "once I get to my stop, I’m getting off." Clearly, he has reached his stop, and now it's Turkey that's being taken for a ride.
