I loved visiting Turkey for academic collaborations and have been very impressed by the Turkish students and colleagues I've worked with. I hope the government will protect the very people who will help it continue to progress.

Our Government in Finland is cutting education at all levels, from daycare to university research. Conservative leaders seem to think they benefit from a badly educated labour class who they think is willing to work for food, if even that, and will never challenge the leadership.

In carefully preserving an open outlook, in which engaged, critical perspectives are as welcome as any other, Turkey (like any other country) will see the greatest advancements, as a society and a country. In this free thinkers are crucial, including those based at its universities and other institutes of higher learning.
